WELCOME TO YEAR 1

Our topic for term 1 is Materials Matter.

PE is on Mondays and Fridays - please make sure your child has their named PE kit in school at all times. Year 1 will be swimming on a Friday afternoon during Term 1.

Please hear your child read as much as possible as it really does help.

If you have queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to come in and see us.

SEN PROVISION

The SEN provision map above shows the various interventions children may get in our class. Children's names have been removed to protect privacy.

ENGLISH

We will be writing in sentences using our writing rules to help us, and coming up with our own ideas for writing.

Books: BEEGU and Traction Man.

MATHS

We will be thinking about number and place value. We will be counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, as well as exploring addition and subtraction and learning number facts. 

SCIENCE

Materials and their properties.

We will be describing how materials look and feel, and what they might be used for.

HISTORY

We will be looking at the differences between past and present in our own and others’ lives. We will also be finding out about the lives of significant figures and historical events.

ART/DT

We will be using a range of materials creatively, thinking about texture and pattern. We will explore sculpture and drawing to develop and share ideas, and we will be learning about significant artists.

SMSC

Our topics this term are living in the wider world, and relationships.

RE

In RE we will be thinking about relationships, our family members, and being part of God’s family.

 

MUSIC

We will be aiming to listen with concentration and understanding, and to take part in singing, following a melody and clapping rhythms.

COMPUTING

We will be thinking about e-safety and staying safe on the computer, and we will be using simple programs.
